What is Botox and Dysport?
Botox, short for Botulinum Toxin, is a neurotoxic protein that is produced by the bacterium Clostridum botulinum. Botox and Dysport are FDA-approved injectable treatments that smooth wrinkles by temporarily relaxing facial muscles. Both contain the same active ingredient (botulinum toxin type A) and are completely safe when administered by qualified professionals.
What they treat:
- Frown lines between your eyebrows
- Forehead wrinkles
- Crow's feet around your eyes
- Bunny lines on your nose
- Lip lines and neck bands (in some cases)
- Excessive sweating (underarms, palms, feet)
- Chronic migraines
These treatments work best on dynamic wrinkles - the lines that appear when you make facial expressions like smiling, frowning, or squinting.
Botox vs. Dysport: Which Is Right for You?
Both deliver similar results with no downtime and last about the same duration. They're administered through small, quick injections.
Key Differences:
- Dysport works faster (results in 2-3 days) and spreads more, making it great for larger areas like your forehead
- Botox takes 3-7 days to show results but offers more precise control for smaller areas around your eyes
- Units differ: About 3 units of Dysport equals 1 unit of Botox, so don't compare unit numbers between products
What to Expect
We'll discuss your concerns, examine your facial movements, and create a personalized treatment plan. Feel free to ask questions about results, costs, and what to expect.
The Treatment:
- Takes only 10-20 minutes
- Small injections with a very fine needle
- Most clients describe it as a quick pinch
- No numbing needed for most people
- You can return to your day immediately
Most clients are surprised by how comfortable the treatment is. The needles are extremely thin, and the process is quick.
